Finja and Andrada at first did not have a clear idea what FM was, but after 6 months of studying Facility Management they are hooked. Read their stories here.
Facility

To be honest, I had no idea what Facility Management (FM) was before stumbling upon it—I didn’t even know it existed. I never had a “dream” degree programme or a clear career goal, so deciding what to do after school was tough.

Since my family runs a real estate business, I searched for Facility & Real Estate Management courses, but most programmes seemed a bit dull and didn’t feel like the right fit. Then I came across the Facility Management course (without the ‘Real Estate’), and I was immediately intrigued—simply because I had no idea what it was. After some research, I realised this was the perfect choice for me.

FM combines the real estate sector with the broader field of facility operations. Every company, in every industry, relies on facilities that need to function smoothly. FM plays a crucial role in managing and optimising these spaces, ensuring they are efficient, sustainable, and well-maintained.

The study programme is dynamic and practical. Each student has a personal study coach, and the university offers plenty of support services (Library, ServiceDesk, Student Counsellor, BUas clubs for social activities) to help me throughout your studies. I am confident for the future!

‘FM combines technology, problem-solving, leadership, and care for people and spaces’

In my last year of high school, I had no idea what facility management (FM) was. Even when I started my programme, it was just a practical choice. But everything changed in my first semester. I quickly realized FM is more than managing buildings or fixing things. It’s a field that mixes strategy, sustainability, technology, and people management. It ensures buildings are safe and energy-efficient, and designs spaces that make people feel comfortable and productive.

The more I learned, the more I got hooked. FM is the behind-the-scenes work that keeps everything running smoothly, whether it’s a hospital, school, office, airport, or stadium. None of these places would function properly without facility managers. What inspired me was seeing how much FM can improve people’s lives. Well-managed spaces make people feel better and work better. Knowing I could help create and improve these environments gave me a sense of purpose.

Coming from Romania, I noticed FM is still not well-known there. There’s so much talent and so many organizations that could benefit from FM knowledge and solutions. The industry is underrated and lacks awareness.

That’s why I’ve set a big goal: to open my own FM consultancy in Romania. I want to bring back what I’m learning to raise awareness, help businesses, and contribute to a sustainable and modern future. It’s about giving back and developing an industry with untapped potential.

FM may not be the most talked-about field of studies or career, but it’s rewarding and future-focused. It combines technology, problem-solving, leadership, and care for people and spaces. I want to make a real impact in the future, and I am convinced this study is my path to that future.
