In May we hosted our very first FM Day, a special event designed for our Facility Management students. Our current students often ask, “What can we actually do after our studies?” and “Where did our alumni end up?” To answer these questions, we invited our alumni to share their experiences in facilities management.
The day was filled with engaging activities where industry professionals presented real-life cases in 15-minute mini-workshops. Some of the assignments included:
Emergency Response Simulation: Companies simulated an emergency response team scenario, challenging students to work together in different roles. A fire alarm going off in a room full of FM professionals was particularly memorable.
Robotics Discussion: Students debated statements like "robotics will improve the quality of service delivery."
Relocation Projects: Students created mini project plans to relocate 900 people within a few weeks, tackling the question of where to start.
Office Opening: Students assessed a new office opening, identifying any missed elements.
Consultancy on Workplace Optimization: Students explored how to optimize workplaces for different generations, concluding that designing for individuals is essential due to diverse needs.
These activities showcased the diverse roles and challenges facilities management graduates may encounter in their future careers.
Inspiring Insights at FM Day
‘We had the pleasure of attending the inaugural FM Day at Breda University of Applied Sciences, representing Apleona Netherlands. This very well organised, student-initiated event featured engaging workshops in the beautiful chapel of the former convent. Kudos to our host, Pleun van Deurssen, for keeping the energy high. The interactive sessions sparked fascinating conversations, leaving everyone with fresh perspectives and new insights. Connections were made, and we even spotted a potential placement student!
